PILGRIM 2001

Pilgrim is the name of a band that gathers 5 Belgian musicians who all have their own projects and bands: Derek, Tony, Bruno, Vis and Boy.
These 5 guys all live in Ghent, but the first Pilgrim-concert (1997) was in Prague, capital of the Czeck Republic.

Derek & Vis started playing the Czeck Republic in 1994. The years to come, they took some fellow musicians along and that’s how Pilgrim was born in 1997.
All 5 of ‘m are singers and songwriters with very different styles, but somehow they succeeded in creating the Pilgrim-sound which is a merely acoustic one. Pilgrim has no drummer, no bass-player, but they swing like hell and beyond.

This is the Pilgrim line-up:
Bruno: acoustic guitar and vocals
Derek: acoustic guitar and vocals
Vis : piano, Hammond-organ, vocals
Boy : electric guitar, vocals
Tony : vocals and occasional percussion

After playing the Czeck Republic for 4 consecutive years they now want to travel south to promote their music.
September 2001 will take ‘m to France, Spain and Portugal.
They will promote the Pilgrim-album ‘Friends Kiss’, but will also play songs from their personal projects and bands:

Bruno: has his own band called ‘Bruno’ and his second and latest album is called ‘Down The Road’. Bruno is a singer-songwriter who can be compared with Dylan, Neil Young, Willie Nelson. He’s considered one of the greater singer-songwriters in his country and gets a lot of airplay on all national radio-stations in Belgium.

Tony: has his own band called ‘Tony’ and his first album’s ‘Love Like Porn’. Tony’s music can be described as Brit-pop, he’s a big fan of The Smiths and it’s singer Morrissey. Both the Czeck and Belgian press called him a fusion of Iggy Pop and Billy Bragg. Tony’s a performer ‘pur sang’.

Boy: has his own band called ‘B.’ and his first mini-album ‘Wait and sea’ is out now. The single ‘Swinging in the water’ gets a lot of airplay on Studio Brussel, a Belgian national radio-station for the younger people. Nick Cave tried to sing like Boy but failed. Boy is also a member of Thou, another Belgian band who’s last album was produced by PJ-Harvey-guitarist John Parish. Boy himself is also a studio-engineer and co-producer of Tony’s cd and the last two Derek & Vis –albums.

Derek & Vis: a duo that often performs with a band. They had 4 cd’s released as ‘cd of the week’ on national Radio 1 between 1996 and 2000. One of the albums was in French ‘Cabaret Sauvignon’ and the single-track ‘Petit Lapin’ was a hit in Belgium. Their latest album is called ‘Makin’ Water’. Derek & Vis mix chanson, jazz, blues and folk. The press called them ‘one person with four hands’, that’s how well they play together, roaming through their swinging and at times darker songs.
